The Brown Bison tote is a limited-edition bag constructed of American-made Bison leather. Bison leather is often thicker than cowhide, and is known for its rugged durability and rustic look. (Quick disclaimer: This isn't the tote for you if you want a pristine look!)
Brown Bison is a thick and structured leather that still feels a little soft to the touch. It doesn't have the pebbled texture we typically associate with Bison leather, and instead has a smooth finish with very visible grain. The waxed finish of the leather serves to accentuate the grain, and it brings out a little bit of pull-up. A Brown Bison leather tote will acquire a patina that's unique to you.
Due to the unique nature of each hide and dye batch, your bag may be a slightly different color than the one pictured. Imperfections such as range marks, small scratches, occasional insect bites, and folds in the leather are natural characteristics of all full-grain leather, including Bison leather.
It takes a lot of steps to make a leather tote by hand. Each tote gets its start on the cutting table, where we inspect every side of leather and choose the perfect piece – with lots of natural character – for your tote. There's nowhere to hide imperfections, so we cut carefully.
Next, we cut the tote's handles out of belting-weight leather, which will break in with use. We sew the side seams of the bag on an industrial machine, backstitching carefully for extra reinforcement. (We always avoid a seam along the bottom of the tote for structural integrity.) Then, we add the interior pocket, handles, and interior strap with copper rivets, hand-set to withstand decades of use.
Your KMM & Co. leather tote bag will become what you make it. If you want a bag that will look exactly the same after a year of heavy use, then this isn't the tote for you. But if you want a tote that looks and feels (and is!) heirloom-quality, and will acquire a patina unique to you, this may be the one.
Your leather tote bag is made by hand and made to order, and can take up to three weeks to ship. It's worth the wait, we promise! (See our shipping page for more details.) Everything is made in and ships from our studio in Atlanta. All orders over $50 ship free within the United States. We can ship to other locations, including APO and FPO addresses, too.
If you aren't happy with your order, you can return it for free within 30 days of receipt. We can't accept returns of items that are customized for you (but totes ordered with longer-than-standard handles but no other modifications are now eligible for return or exchange!) See our full return policy.
We want your tote to be perfect for you, so we offer a variety of ways to customize it! We can emboss the leather tag with up to 27 characters: letters, numbers, or a few emojis. (Just type what you'd like in the monogram field in your cart!)
Other custom options include:
- Longer handles, which we'll custom-cut just for you
- A detachable crossbody strap, which has brass hardware and adjusts between 44 inches and 51 inches
- A brass snap closure (the same brass snap closure on the mini totes)
Please note that a snap closure or a crossbody strap are a custom order and make your tote final-sale. Totes ordered with longer-than-standard handles but no other modifications are eligible for return or exchange.
If you add a crossbody strap or snap closure, choose your drop length carefully, as we are unable to make alterations to final-sale items. (See our alterations policy.) Reach out to email@example.com if you have any questions!
