Happy 2020! The KMM & Co. team is back in the studio, and we're celebrating the new year by relaunching our beloved one-of-a-kind collection.
We've written about our one-of-a-kind bags before. But if you need a quick refresher, we've got you covered! Read on for all the details on the different bags you'll see in our one-of-a-kind collection, including some categories that are all-new for 2020.
Okay, so what does "one-of-a-kind" mean?
As you might guess from the name, every one-of-a-kind bag is unique in some way. Some have a brand applied to the leather by the ranch where the cow was raised. Others have scratches, scars, variations in color, and other imperfections that came about either during the tanning process or during the life of the cow. And sometimes, we offer samples or ready-made bags, which have already been assembled by our team.
Can you remind me what bags are included?
All of the items in our one-of-a-kind collection are conveniently located on the collection page. That way, when a new batch of totes arrives, you'll find them all in one place! As you browse the collection, you'll notice that we offer a few different types of one-of-a-kind leather tote bags. Those categories are:
- Scratch-and-dent totes: These totes have imperfections that come about during the lifetime of the cow or the tanning process.
- Branded totes: These bags are made from sides of leather with a unique brand, which is applied by a ranch to identify the cows in its herd.
- Ready-made totes: These totes are already assembled by our team, with a drop length that's already decided (and limited customization options).
- Mottled totes: These totes are made from a batch of leather with a dye irregularity, and they fade in an unusual (and unpredictable) pattern.
- Sample bags: These bags are made during the process of prototyping a new design, and are only rarely offered for sale.
Why does KMM & Co. offer this collection?
KMM & Co. introduced the one-of-a-kind collection in order to make our production process more sustainable. We make a conscious decision to purchase and use hides that are not perfect, and it's important to us to use every part of a hide, even if it has flaws. We've opted to make scratch-and-dent and branded bags out of less-than-perfect sides, just like we use pieces of scrap leather to make both small accessories and components of our larger items. It's also fun to offer some great deals to our loyal customers, so this is the collection to watch for some amazing discounts!
What's the best deal in the collection?
The ready-made bags in the one-of-a-kind collection are often steals! Because they're already assembled by our team, we offer all of the existing customizations on the bag for one flat price.
Our scratch-and-dent totes are also a great way to save if you want a beautiful full-grain leather bag but don't want to pay full price. All of our leather will show wear and acquire a patina as you carry your bag, so a scratch-and-dent bag just gives you a head start on that unique look.
Will you restock a sold-out item in this collection?
Some bags in our one-of-a-kind collection come in and out of stock and are offered when we have them on hand (like scratch-and-dent Kodiak totes). But others are completely unique and true one-offs, like each of our branded bags or our sample bags. You can sign up for email notifications on the page for an item that's out of stock. But for many one-of-a-kind totes, once they're gone, they're gone for good.
